Higher One was founded as a financial services company with a sole focus on servicing the needs of higher education institutions. In the relatively short time since the company’s formation, they have made a significant impact on the campus card market–gaining the attention of campuses coast to coast while bringing their first two institutions live with the OneAccount Service.

Higher One’s service model is unique in the market today. The company capitalizes on the ubiquity of the Internet to provide banking services, rather than relying on conventional bank branch networks. Because of this, they can service institutions nationwide and can maintain the same level of service to account holders when they leave campus for the summer or to study abroad.

Higher One views the integration of financial, campus card, and billing systems as a crucial component in a successful campus card partnerships. To this end, they have partnership agreements with CBORD, Blackboard, and Diebold in an effort to more closely tie data and services.

According to Walter Hinckfoot, National Sales Vice President for Higher One, the OneAccount Service product:

  • Simplifies financial aid disbursements,
  • Improves bill presentment, payment processing, and cashiering
  • Extends campus card purchasing options off campus and online with
    MasterCard debit functionality
  • Eases direct deposit enrollment for student employees
  • Improves the ROI of any one-card system

Clients and date of partnership initiation:

  • University of Houston, 2002
  • University of Wisconsin-Stout, 2003
