SunTrust is one of the premiere financial institutions in the Southeastern U.S. The bank provides a range of services to higher education institutions and students–including the origination of more than $821 million in new student loans in 2002. SunTrust began providing campus card banking services to the well-known FSUCard program after being awarded the contract by Florida State University in 1996. The FSU program, long considered a model for campus card banking partnerships, has undeniably flourished during the seven year relationship. Last year, SunTrust began providing card program banking services to the University of Central Florida (UCF) when the bank purchased the Florida franchise of the Huntington Bank, thus assuming the UCF business. Both these Florida-based programs continue to grow in account holders, deposits, and innovative service offerings.

SunTrust’s Campus Card program offers convenient, time saving financial services for students and staff. According to SunTrust’s Northwest Florida Bank Operations Manager, Kathy Whitaker-Jones, “cardholders benefit from full-service on-campus banking and direct deposit of financial aid while the institution enjoys cost saving administrative payment functions and structured fee payments.”

Highlights of the SunTrust program include:

  • Full-service on-campus banking
  • On-campus ATMs
  • Worldwide ATM/POS functionality via Cirrus and Star Networks
  • Direct deposit of financial aid
  • Free Internet banking
  • Student employment opportunities with on-campus branches

Clients and date of partnership initiation:

  • Florida State University, 1996
  • University of Central Florida, 2002
