The University of Ghana (UG), in collaboration with MakYoung Limited, officially launched its new university student identity card, dubbed “The UG CRUZ-CARD”, according to GhanaWeb.

The student ID card, which is also a Visa enabled prepaid card, access control card and a library card for students and staff of the institution, seeks to eliminate cash handling as well as eliminate the carrying of multiple cards.

Officials from the university said the introduction of the identity card will provide students the opportunity to access information and transact business, across the globe. A spokeswoman from Visa for West Africa revealed that the program is the first of its kind in Ghana, adding to the few of such cards implemented within universities across the world.

The UG CRUZ-CARD aims to improve student life by driving conveniences and increasing security such that it becomes an integrated part of campus life. The card has been designed to add value to the community of students and staff as well as enjoying financial flexibility.
