Indian state to implement biometrics in schools

CampusIDNews Staff   ||   Jun 08, 2009  ||

In an effort to better control drop-out rates among students as well as absenteeism among teachers, the Gujarat government in India has decided to install biometric systems in all their state-run primary schools to keep tabs on attendance, according to a Sindh Today article.

The system they intend to implement soon would see the monitoring of daily attendance of both teachers and students via a biometrics check-in system. Though all schools enrolled in the program would be setup to be monitored via the web by a central location, it would require that each school upload their daily data to the municipal school authority Web site.
