Beijing sees rise in fake student ID

CampusIDNews Staff   ||   Jan 12, 2011  ||

Fake student ID cards are on the rise in Beijing as people attempt to travel cheap during the Spring Festival holidays, according to the Beijing Daily.

Counterfeit card dealers are distributing phony cards for only $3 and travelers can even purchase cards carrying the magnetic strip for an additional fee. Many believe they will get tickets home for the holidays at half prices, as well as discounted admission into local sporting events but according to transit officials these people are wrong.

Customers, however, will not be able to buy discounted tickets with these fake student ID cards because they will be swiped to verify authenticity and ensure the owner of the card matches the person attempting to get a travel discount, according to the report.

In addition to paying the whole price of the ticket, people who use fake cards will also be fined 50% of the ticket price.
