Singaporean university issues student smart cards

Singapore's Nanyang Technological University is now issuing smart cards to students that will be used to make payments and enable access to campus facilities. The new student ID cards will act as the identity credential for the university's some 33,000 students and staff members.

Carleton University moves to smart cards

Indiana University moving to single ID card

Indiana University has revealed plans to roll out new smart cards this spring that will now be issued to cardholders across its system of campuses. The move is also expected to streamline university processes and meet voter identification requirements.

Notre Dame moving to smart cards

Fall 2017 will mark a major change to Notre Dame's Irish1Card program card program, with all students set to be issued new, smart card IDs. The university will be transitioning from the magstripe-only credentials it is currently issuing to multi-technology credentials that incorporate both magstripe and smart card capabilities. The transition will be accompanied by other tweaks that will move the card program toward a more "campus-directed enterprise."

Northwestern redesigns the Wildcard

Northwestern University has redesigned its Wildcard and will begin issuing the new credentials August 1. The updated smart card reflects Northwestern's brand and visual identity, and delivers enhanced security features. The HID iCLASS cards will be used by students to enter dorms, check books out at the library, access parking lots and enter secure campus facilities.

Historically the card technology conversation wasn't often a major sticking point, with a vast majority of campuses deploying mag stripe credentials. But the emergence of contactless smart card technology added a new facet to the conversation.
